Victory is mine!

Ahhhh  spring.  There’s a 15,000 acre fire burning a few dozen miles from here and the smoke was a wee bit annoying.  By the end of the day, the breeze had changed (these things tend to generate their own weather) and it had sucked the smoke out of our valley.  The sun broke through and the day became one of those heartbreakingly gorgeous days one dreams of in January.  Things even went well at work.

I’ve been playing with the boss’s Cessna 180 for the last week or so.  He flies it on a set of wheel skis during the winter and floats in summer.  Seeing as how the ice was off the float pond, it was time to change the sneakers on the plane.  bear in mind it’s been close to 10 years since I’ve installed a set of floats.  I thank from the heart of my bottom one of my colleagues for helping out.  Otherwise that Cessna would still be hanging from the crane while I tried to get things hooked up.  Did all the measuring and cable tension checks, proclaimed the operation a success, and hauled the whole works to the float pond across the airfield.  It actually floats and flies straight.   Victory Number 1 for the day.

Another wonderful Cessna product, another issue.  Before I started at the company, a few guys were chasing an oxygen leak in the Cessna 340 we own.  It’s a right pain in the ass to track down simply because the guy who designed this airframe wasn’t human.  Or he was on crank.  Anyway, it wasn’t flying for a while so I tore the insides out to get to all the lines, grabbed my little bottle of leak detector (basically soap and water.  It bubbles when there’s a leak), and twisted my old bod into some interesting shapes.  After a couple of hours, I managed to find a fairly significant leak at the quantity gauge.  Out it all comes, and into the book I go to find the replacement.  Naturally we, nor anyone else on the airport, has one.  A little creative repair using approved methods and presto! no leak.  At least not as of close of business.   Victory Number 2.  We’ll see Monday morning.

All in all a good day.  So I hooked up the boat and went fishin…..

A couple victories always make for a good day.

But the fires? Yuck. Guess that’s part of the price of living in paradise, eh? Stay safe!
